Adriana Castro

This is my first handbag post! So excited to talk about Adriana Castro and her exotic handbag collection. When I say exotic… I mean exotic. She creates genuine, authentic crocodile and snake skin handbags that are absolutely stunning!

Adriana Castro

Her designs are meant for women of any age and has plenty of durability to match its chic style. Catro’s inspiration comes from early in her childhood, she states in her biography, “As a young girl growing up in Colombia, Adriana Catro made frequent visits to her father’s crocodile farm (a.k.a. zoocriadero). It was during these years that she dreamt up designs she would later implement into her current Collection. Castro entered adulthood knowing that her passion was to design crocodile accessories; at this critical point she wisely decided to learn as much as possible about running a business. After receiving a Bachelors Degree in Economics from Purdue University she worked for Sony. She then started studies in Accessory Design in the recognized Art Institute at Miami International University.”

She started her first line in 2007 and today is worn by A-list celebrities including Sarah Jessica Parker, Jennifer Lopez, Eva Longoria, Kim Kardashian, Heidi Klum and Audrina Patridge.

Her designs can be found at specialty retailers worldwide including Henri Bendel in New York City, Saks Fifth Avenue in Dubai, Harvey Nichols in Hong Kong as well as select boutiques in Russia and Mexico. Her bags range in price to upwards of $3,000. So they aren’t something you just buy on a whim. But the detail and design is something to be admired. I can honestly say that I did not know that snake could look so beautiful, and have only seen faux bags in basic colors such as black, brown, and maybe red. Many of you are against crocodile and snake skin bags because of it’s effect on the environment. However many of the reptiles used in making handbags and belts are raised on farms. I know, it doesn’t sound much better but they are monitored and raised for a purpose. When you buy an Adriana Castro product, you are contributing to the repopulation program of the caiman species, under the supervision of the Colombian Ministry of Natural Resources and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). All products are part of a sustainable use program that benefit people and wildlife and contribute to breed another animal into the wildlife.

I admire Adriana for her hard work, she has made a name for herself in a very fickle industry. If she is as interesting and unusually classy as her handbags I would love to meet her! What do you guys think? Would you buy her bags?
